the followup to the followup

Metallica has finally released the track list to their newest album. On said playlist, we are informed there will be a followup song to a followup song called "The Unforgiven III". I'm leaving out my cleaver musings about the meaning of this. However, it does call the question "what needs a completely unnecessary sequel to a sequel?" Perhaps Metallica will produce a mindblowing epic of such legendary proportions that we'll all stand in awe ...or just shrug and think about Steve Miller's often maligned and misunderstood 80's offerings.

Perhaps write an ode to the passing of time and decay. Actually, skip that part and go straight to the third part of your trilogy (yes we know it was always planned from the beginning).

frosting

What does frosting have to do with anything you say? I say a great deal. Maybe it's the glue that holds the presentation together. Or perhaps a frosting allows something to look more extraordinary.

Today, I'm just thinking about all the ways gloss and glitz (see below) i.e frosting covers everything. A mind can go any number of places musing on this subject.

According to Merriam-Webster:
Pronunciation:
\ˈglits\
Function:
noun
Etymology:
perhaps modification of German glitzern to glitter, from Middle High German glitzen; akin to Old Norse glitra to glitter
Date:
1971
Actually this makes me really makes me dread remembering what happened at the factory to those three workers. Everything over some gold coin? Sad...

Word of the Day

From our friends at dictionary.com

Word of the Day
Tuesday July 22, 2008

gamine \gam-EEN; GAM-een\, noun:
1. A girl who wanders about the streets; an urchin.
2. A playfully mischievous girl or young woman.

My question of course is how did she get this way?

Perhaps this cat knows the answer? Perhaps it was the source of all her woes? or not...

low to the ground

Last night I was thinking about alternate perspectives and perceptions. So today is all about deliberately changing or focusing on perspective:

a few ways I was thinking about:

->visually
-making a series of photos from an inch or 2 from the ground

->musically
-filtering out all but the lower frequencies of a well known song or two.

->writing
-two parties who are at war due to the wrong information such as Morris Day and the Time vs Prince in Purple Rain (rather than those involved in WW One.) Update: I removed the link to Purple Rain after I was informed this was obvious. But try this!

limbic system

It is Monday, it's been a long weekend for us all. Perhaps this nice diagram will help.

My thoughts run toward the illustrator's family. All the hardship his ancestor's must have endured. I, for one, applaud his great great grandfather.

I am also mystified that (the very distant) part of the family had such strong connections to the chalk industry.

Perhaps take an hour to reflect on this tale.

Word for the day

From "m-w.com"

The Word of the Day for July 18, 2008 is:

bogart • \BOH-gart\ • verb
1 : bully, intimidate
*2 : to use or consume without sharing

Example Sentence:
Three of the older girls bogarted the ice cream, ignoring the other campers' pleas for them to share.

Now my question is: Why didn't the other campers let the girls know the true origins of the camp ground?

your favorite artist

think of your favorite artist.

now think of the person they would absolutely cringe around. the person that makes them question their humanity and all that is good.

this person had 2 children.

something happened that night...

30 words or less.

a few things to start with:

perhaps today you are bored uninspired and blocked -maybe stressed and just overloaded?
or overly concerned with my poor usage of my first and only language.

well time to take a break

set aside 10 mins after reading this.

here are your options:
-make something embarrassingly stupid.

-make something horrendously bad.

welcome aboard

alright folks, so you are here to grab some ideas and get back to creating.

i'll be posting challenges, limits, themes, catagories. it's like oblique strategies yet a little less oblique.

such as:

google -> {insert random fruit} ->"i feel lucky"

now open the code and create something based on the 14 th line of code.

you have 45mins

And so forth...
